Hello! for this little task, we were taught how to make Lino prints. Thes nothing else to really talk about so I will just go directly into it. We were too that we had to make a Lino print related to the music artist we are using for our whole music project. Now, since mine is a band I chose their lead singer, Jess Howard.
I drew her on a piece of paper tracing our the iMac screen. This was quite fun although I don't like the idea of tracing since it takes al the skill away for drawing realistically, but I will say the final product does not look half bad and I might do this more if I am feeling lazy or fi I don't think I have the drawn capabilities. After this I Cavs her out onto a rubber Lino sheet, and began printing.
The printing was quite fun since we were using these real old but vey reliable pressure printing machines. We operated them by placing down the Lino, then the piece of paper that we want to print facing th ink see of the Lino followed by a certain amount of layers of ny for of paper or fabric for the top to make good contact to press down. After this, we all it under the mess and pull really had onto the handle twice, to then take it out an see the final product. Its quite a simple pr
ocess but such simple processes meaning you can build off of them to have more complicated processes, meaning more detailed work. But anyways, I made quite a few of these but I'm going to be speaking about these as if there all once piece, since they're all so similar to each other.
Before I show you the final pieces, I want to show you a couple of other experimental things I besides the main experiment, which was the Lino printing. The first experiment I did was mixing multiple inks onto a single piece of Lino. This was quite fun because the colours matched well. With this, I also liked making it since there seems o be an art of mixing these colours tome sure it docent look horrible. Ather thing I did as epeimenttion for this is making my own colours or this. There wasn't anypinkink to use, so I mixed the magenta and white paints to make this lovely pink which I used. This was fun enough and if I did Lino printing I would do this again since its a good way to get the exact colour you're looking for.
Another thing I experimented with is stamping a Lino print multiple times on a single piece of paper. For me at least, this introduces a really cool layered effect which makes the picture ore visually interesting. With this aswell, I also decided to mess with the orientation of the Lino print to see what effect it would have. The effect was quite interesting making it look like it was supposed to be there, a sort of messy vibe which I think goes well with the bare visible outline of Jess Howard. I would defiantly do this effect again, since I think its quite interesting.
Now, let's get to the actual final pieces.
This is a pretty neat final piece. Although they weren't meant to be together a s signal piece, the fact they are is actually a really cool look. But I won't say more here, I have to still have enough talking points for the rest of these paragraphs.
What do I think of the work I ave produced here? I think this is really good. I really like the colours used, the greens and the pinks weirdly work together. The pure white sheets of paper used in the top left and bottom right with their respective patterns really make it look just good. I also like the border here. This isn't supposed to be part of the final product, but if I were to print this out as a poster I think I would print it with the boarder.
Was it successful? To answer this, we need to know the the goal for this. The goal for his poet was to begin using Lino printing and experiment with how this can be used to a basic level. For me tales, this has been a good way to learn how Lino works, along with the final products being very interesting to look at, meaning that they are good.
What would I do differently? I don't think I wold do any of this differently, because the entire thing was simply testing, although I feel like I should have used more colours for that bottom right one since I already made a print using the basic single ink on a white piece of paper. But apart form this small kid bit I don't think I would have changed anything here.
How could I develop this further? I think I could be sing different materials all together. So instead on printing on paper I could use this to print on cardboard or even T-shirts. I could also try and flick paint onto the Lino piece before printing. I have seen others do it and it gives an interesting look, like its had spots of colour applied to it which I don't think would have exactly gone well on this complex design, but we try these things t see if our hypothesises are true of false.
Would I use this in future work? Maybe, making this has been really fun and I would love to try it again some time soon with the knowledge that I have now.
