Balloons, Drawings I've Drawn.

Updated: Sep 26, 2022

This is two drawings of balloons that Ive been asked to draw from, here is m thoughts on them!

"(green line)" - 2022.

This is the first drawing I've done. I made this as an exersise to talk to others in class along with to gain inspiration for the rest of the project. For some context, we were told to try and create a sculpture out of balloons, but we didn't make one in the end and instead borrowed somebody sees, and combined it with a sword one of the people in our group made. This was made with simple colouring felt tips with regular ends and chizzle ends.

Now, time to reflect on this, do I like this? I do like this piece, because of the colours use, them being a lovely assortment of pink, blue, purple and greens, at least to me they are quite party themed, since of how bright they are. Another thing I like about tis piece is the little details I put in the loops at the bottom. As you can see, the one on the left has a bunch of zigzags, this is because I felt it was a little empty and I didn't know what else to put in there, whilst the other side is a bunch of squiggly lines that all form around each other, creating an interesting pattern to look at. One thing that does say party yo me in this piece is in the details in the right loop, where is says "Life of the party!!!" which I liked. One more detail I like about this piece is the green background. I think it really gives it something else interesting to look at, along with framing the piece well, since you first see the green, which leads your eyes down to the pink, blue and purple balloons, for it to then end with the doodles and the zig zags.

Would I do anything differently if I recreated this another time? Yes. I would first try and use the same green throughout the entire piece, since although I do like the greens I've used, for me I don't think they look good all together in a single piece and are better suited to compliment other colours compared to these ones. Another thing I would change if I had another chance is the green detail at the very bottom. This was a mistake actually, since I drew on the back of the paper, I seeped through onto the other side, making these little spots which I don't think suit the piece very well.

If I were to go back to this piece, what would I add to it? Now, I think the only other thing I would add to this piece if I were to continue with this piece would be another rectangle as the background, like the big green one, but instead of green I think I would use another colour, like yellow. I would still like to have the same faded over time lookalike the green rectangle as well, and I would also draw it where the yellow rectangle would be under the green one, and moved to the right quite a bit.

One more thing, would I revisit this in the future? probably, because I really wanna try and make this into a poster using photoshop.

Untitled - 2022.

This is the other piece I've drawn from this. As we can tell, it hasn't had as much effort in, but you can also tell that this is where I experimented a lot more, trying ideas and seeing if I like them or not, along with just general doodling. Fun fact by the way, that green splodge in the bottom middle is the reason why there is little spots of green on the first drawing.

Now, do I like this piece? I'm not as big of a fan of this piece compared to the other one I've drawn, but I think it is still good. I like the drawing on the middle left, to me its a very stepped down version of what I drew on the first side, with the coloured balloons and even the green rectangle of a background. I also like this little drawing of a cat on the bottom left. It isn't relevant to the topic of party at all but its something that I made and I think its pretty neat. One more think I like about this piece is the use of different pens and pencils being used in the same piece, which makes it more interesting to look at, with the rougher texture of the pencils and still having the cleaner lines of a pen.

Was it successful? Well, for its function of experimenting with different designs, different drawing utensils along with giving my mind a break whilst making the other piece, it was very good at that.

What would I have done differently? I wouldn't of done anything different at all really, to me this is exactly what it needed to be, a play test of designs and tools, with the big patch of green being there to see how it would look, the multiple drawing of the sculpture to make sure I got the shape correct and even the usage of different drawing utensils to see how they look and if they suit.

How could I develop this piece more? I feel like I could use more mediums, like painting or collages, to see how they would look for the main piece, along with different drawing utensils aswell, like watercolour pencils or fountain pens. I wouldn't do any more besides that though, since this entire picture was meant to be testing.

Would I revisit this later in the future? probably not, I never have intended to go back onto this, but the future might change so lets see. As of right now though? it's not in my plans.
