For this, one of our tutors said that we should try and paint with ink on some paper, as we listen to music. We were directed to draw whatever we felt the song made us feel or think, so I did that. There were quite a few songs, 20 I think, but I'm only going to include a couple here, since going through all 20 is a bit of a waste.
So, what do I think of what I have made here? Me, these are pretty nice in my opinion. Although they are exceptionally textured paired with poorly drawn graphics, I think this gives them extra character. I would tell you which songs inspired these, but I honestly forgot. All I know is that the one in the bottom left is inspired by "Champaign Supernova" by Oasis.
Well, was it successful? That's hard to answer because I can't think of the purpose for these, but if I had to make it up, the purpose of this exercise is to try and make graphics using purely sound as the influence, and for that said purpose, I think it went quite well.
What would I do differently? I don't think I would have done anything differently, because these are drawings made in the moment of music along with, for me, showing a little bit about what each song is like to listen to in a visual depiction.
How could I develop this further? I would first absolutely make these digital, so it's easier to manipulate these, along with not having to worry about ruining the only copy I have of these. I would also make some of them with coloured lines rather than the standard black, along with maybe even making a poster or two, perhaps even an album cover to reflect on the brief of music.
Is this something I will be visiting in the future? Yes, in fact, I think I'm gonna do it now.
