Yes, but no. The owners of this company are Bruno Basso and Christopher Brooke. If you try to look up their names, other people come up instead, but the main thing that they do is Jupiter 10, where they focus on the wallpaper, mainly the designs. For some background bout these two, they first got their start as consultants for more prominent brands, along with making for museums and books.
But this isn't about the people, this is about their work. Now, the theme for this brief is once again party, but with patterns instead. So, since we have already looked at the google definition of party, let's see the definition for the pattern. Now, unlike parties, this is harder to expand when it comes to the definition because there have to be some stricter rules for something to be a pattern, so it's important to define this first before we go ahead with the next task.
Which for me, is to talk about how I'm here. Our tutor has set a list of things for students to do, including doing research for patterns in any sort of media. I was thinking of reading some of the books this place has, but I am not in the mood for reading, so instead, I did the same thing as last time and went to Pinterest to find some interesting patterns. I found quite a few, but only some were my favourite, and they were all done by Jupiter 10.
Luckily enough, another task on this list is to do another artist analysis, but for patterns instead. And so, I decided to try and look through my pin to find the ones I liked, then realise they're mainly made by this single company.
Simply put, the reason why I gravitated to these people so much is because of their use of colours. The colours that they use are absolutely beautiful, You can see the brown, greens, yellows, and begged they use quite a bit in their work, along with their simple-to-look-at graphics really are just nice to look at, and is especially good at being wallpaper. In fact, I love this wallpaper so much that if they weren't so expensive I would genuinely consider having their "Stockholm" wallpaper in my bedroom. But enough gushing about it, let's talk about it.
And so, we start off with my favourite one of all the ones I have chosen, Prague. This going to be quite short of a section, but what mediums do I think they have used to create this pattern? Me, I think all of these were made in Adobe Illustrator, Ince they have really good tools to make perfect circles, along with great tools to make patterns as a whole.
What characteristics of this piece make me think of "Patterns" or "Parties"? For myself, this is obviously. pattern, since this is a piece of work that is repetitive in design, along with being used in a. decorative manner. For party though, that's a bit more of a deeper cut. I see a party in this because for me, it reminds me of fancier restaurants, places of high prestige that people very regularly book, and sometimes hire out, to celebrate with friends, co-workers and family. I also see the party in this because of the white lines. To me, these graphics are like smiling faces with one eye, and I associate visible happiness slightly, with parties. This is because parties are most usually happy events.
What do I see in this piece? I see a warm welcome to a luxury five-star restaurant, as your friends and family are already sitting down at their 24-seat table they booked for you, with some warm live jazz in the background, you celebrate your birthday with warm arms, and as you sit down to look around at this place, you catch your eye on the walls, and you look at the wallpaper, this is what you see.
This is the next piece I have chosen for us, which is Lyon. You also might notice the pattern that these are all named after different places, and this is because they are meant to be homages to their respective places, as an accurate way to show the place's overall feeling in a single pattern.
So. what mediums do I think have been used to create this pattern? If you've read the last pattern I have analysed, you would know this I also think that this is in Adobe Illustrator, purely because it is the industry standard for making any sort of graphic that doesn't involve using bitmap assets, along with illustrator just being a good tool for making patterns.
Well, why does this piece make me think of "parties" or "patterns?" I will start with the pattern and why it reminds me of this. This is quite simple I will be honest, as you can see it has a graphic that is repeated throughout the wallpaper, and by the definition that we have laid out, it fits such to a tea, but what about parties? For me, what this reminds me of parties is not some conceptual idea of where I can see this, but instead the actual graphic itself. This can be seen as a more abstract take on balloons. I say this because we can see a bunch of circles with a line going into each one, although said circles are two-tone when the line devices such, besides this though you can see that they look like balloons, and I associate balloons with parties.
What do I see in this piece? Well, I see a lovely string of balloons in a quite nice chalky pink, illustrated with quite thin black lines that make the design look more premium, along with a lovely colour for the background as well that lets the pink shine, paired with black on the said pink balls too make an interesting contrast.
This is the final design I shall be analysing. For me, this is a blend of the first and the second design, because of the colours from the first can be seen here, whilst the circle with line design can also be seen in this too, along with the same lighter background to compliment the colours
Now, what mediums have been used to make this pattern? Well, I think you know after the last two, but I could only assume these were made fully digitally using Adobe Illustrator. I could see some visualisation diagrams being made on paper before the final product was made, same for the rest of these, but I'm still confident saying that the final product, along with a large amount of the visualisation diagrams for this.
Why does this make me think of "patterns" or "parties?" Okay, so I know the last two times I highlighted why in more detail than it deserves why this reminds me of patterns, but to simply put it, it's because it is a repeating graphic. But anyways, why does this remind me of parties? This is because of a subtle design choice of having a bunch of semi-circles on some sort of line. For me at least, this can be seen as a more cosy take on the traditional line of flags people hang up for birthday parties.
Lastly, what do I see in this picture? For me, it's a mixture of a more dark-coffee flavouring take on parties, along with a mixture of the first two designs we have looked at. Now, you may be thinking, why would I use such pretentious wording? this is because it's genuinely accurate to how I would describe it. We have a more adult and serious take on parties through these patterns, with complimenting subtle tones rather than the loud and obnoxious colouring that can be found on other types of things that could be considered partying, like children's birthday parties and the such, but still having inspiration from these less formal party decorations implemented into their designs.
